The Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics started its activity in 1946, when the Moldova State University was founded. More than 30 habilitated doctors who currently work in various countries and fields, particularly in education and science, received their training here, where the famous scientific schools of algebra, differential equations, geometry, and mathematical analysis originated. Today, the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics has about 600 students, 80 qualified teaching staff, including 8 habilitated doctors and 48 doctors of science. There are 10 laboratories for seminars and practical activities with about 170 computers at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics. Within the faculty, there are the “Education and Research Center in Mathematics and Computer Science” and “Wolfram Moldova” laboratories, which organize modern courses in the fields of mathematics and computer science, and the MICROSOFT.NET laboratory, which provides the students with a series of books and licensed software for the study process. The Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics collaborates fruitfully with some IT companies, including ALLIED TESTING, CEDACRI INTERNATIONAL, ENDAVA, which provide the students with practical training in specialized laboratories in the field of information technologies. Thanks to such collaborations, the graduates of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics currently have one of the highest employment rates both in prestigious domestic institutions and abroad. The faculty coordinates the activity of the “Support center for visually impaired students”.

The mission of the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics consists in promoting educational and research programs that are in line with international standards in the fields of mathematics and information technologies, correlated with the requirements of the labor market in the Republic of Moldova.
