ONLINE TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR DOCTORAL STUDENTS

“ESSENTIAL SKILLS FOR EARLY CAREER SCHOLARS” (2 ECTS)

The Department of International Relations, Faculty of International Relations and Political Sciences of Moldova State University in cooperation with the Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies at the University of Tartu invites PhD students in the field of political science to participate in seminars offered at the University of Tartu focused on professional skills development and increasing the research capacities of doctoral students. 

During the training, MSU doctoral students will participate in 6 online sessions together with students from UT and complete 3 practical assignments to train specific skills and know-how to facilitate their development as researchers. The main aim of the course is to enhance the participants’ abilities to set goals and make informed choices about their studies and research, and to facilitate the transition to being a researcher by explaining and reflecting upon the rules, norms and ‘ways of doing things’ in contemporary social science.

The training programme will be taught by faculty from the University of Tartu and includes independent study on Moodle and synchronous active participation in the Zoom webinars. Attendance in the webinars is a requirement to complete the course.

The webinars will take place every second Thursday at 12:15–13:45. Upon successful completion of the training programme, students will receive 2 ECTS and a digital certificate from the University of Tartu.

Schedule of the biweekly meetings and topics to be covered:

  • 3 October – Publishing your research
  • 17 October – Working with your supervisor, co-author and as part of a team
  • 31 October – Professional associations, conferences, visibility and (social) media
  • 14 November – Research ethics, responsible and open research
  • 28 November – Preparing funding applications, managing grant projects
  • 12 December – Surviving and thriving as a PhD student

The online training programme for PhD students is organized within international project “Estonia’s Best Practices for Enhancement of Moldova’s Higher Education Capacities (EST4MORE)”, developed by University of Tartu, Estonia in partnership with Moldova State University and the support of ESTDEV. The project addresses challenges faced by Moldovan HEIs through engaging three target audiences: 1) equipping educators with digital skills and strengthening e-learning quality assurance practices; 2) enhancing MA students’ knowledge of European integration and improving “future skills” to make them competitive in the labor market as the next generation of European leaders; 3) uplifting the professional skills of doctoral students by creating networking opportunities with the Estonian researchers to facilitate the transfer of know-how and best practices.
