On May 6-8, 2026, the Moldova State University hosted the 3rd GENERAL ASSEMBLY of the Horizon Europe „STAR” project at the Faculty of Economic Sciences. Within the framework of this important event for the project, the International Round-Table “Cross-Cultural and Sectoral Perspectives on ESG Disclosure and Sustainability Reporting” took place.

The official opening featured the addresses of:

– Rector of Moldova State University, Prof., Dr. hab. Otilia DANDARA who reaffirmed MSU’s institutional commitment to research excellence and to sustainability reporting as a strategic university priority.

– Dean of the Faculty of Economic Sciences, Assoc. Prof., Dr. Adriana BUZDUGAN,  who underlined the faculty’s mission to train economists capable of addressing ESG and corporate sustainability challenges – topics increasingly present in the curricula and applied research.

– Tatiana BULIMAGA, Head of the International Cooperation Department, MSU, who highlighted the role of strategic partnerships and MSU’s integration into the European Research Area through programmes such as Horizon Europe.

– Prof., Dr. Eng. Elena FLEACA, Project Director of the “STAR” project, National University of Science and Technology POLITEHNICA Bucharest (UNSTPB), presented an overview of the project’s research scope and interdisciplinary approach for policymaking.

–  Lect., Dr. Theodora DOLTU (UNSTPB) presented the methodological and interdisciplinary perspectives underpinning the comparative analysis of sustainability reporting behaviors across industries, emphasizing the relevance of cultural and sectoral factors in ESG disclosure practices.

A key strength of the event is the INSTITUTIONAL DIVERSITY OF THE SPEAKERS – representatives of public authorities, the banking sector, employers’ associations and standardisation bodies. This cross-sectoral approach provides a comprehensive picture of how ESG principles translate into practice in the Republic of Moldova:

– Dr. Victoria DANILA, Head of Service, Green, Inclusive and Good Governance Economy Development Service, MINISTRY OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND DIGITALIZATION OF THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA – the public policy and regulatory perspective;

– Elena BOLOCAN, Sustainability Analyst, BC “MAIB” S.A. – the experience of Moldova’s largest bank in adopting EU reporting regulations;

– Mr. Vladislav CAMINSCHI, Ms. Cristina TÎȘCUL and Ana GROZA, NATIONAL CONFEDERATION OF EMPLOYERS OF THE REPUBLIC OF MOLDOVA (CNPM) – embedding ESG principles into core business operations;

– Mihaela NEGURA, INSTITUTE FOR STANDARDIZATION OF MOLDOVA (ISM) – the role of international standards as a tool for ESG implementation;

– Ludmila CHIRMAN and Dr. Daniela BUMBAC, BC “MOLDINDCONBANK” S.A. – the integration of ESG in banking management;

– Dumitru SOBOLEV, Environmental Manager, EMPLOYERS’ ASSOCIATION “MOLDCONCTROL” – the industry and environmental management perspective.

The presence of these professionals from different sectors – government, banking and finance, employers’ associations, standardisation, industry – generates a genuine dialogue between academia, public authorities and the business community. This is an essential condition for a real transition towards sustainability in the Republic of Moldova and for grounding public policies in relevant data and practices.
